Van Drew '08?

South Jersey Republican leaders seem to think that by the time the general election ballots are printed, Cape May City Councilman David Kurkowski won’t be the Democratic candidate for Congress against Frank LoBiondo in the second district.  And LoBiondo, insiders say, seems almost obsessed with the idea that State Sen. Jeff Van Drew will enter the race against him.

Van Drew has done this before.  He initially declined to run for the State Assembly in 2001, and then after the primary, when the political climate looked as though it might favor the Democrats, he decided to run.  Robert Balicki, who won the Democratic primary, stepped aside, and Van Drew, ousted GOP incumbent Jack Gibson. Van Drew has said he won’t run, but that’s what he said in 2001, and again in 2007 when he initially said he wouldn’t challenge Republican State Sen. Nicholas Asselta.

Would love this because it would mean a Norcross man would be elevated to Congress...and I do appreciate Wally's rather acurate depiction of the shady Van Drew

look at all these rumors

The latest accounts from The Press of Atlantic City and elsewhere give no indication that a Van Drew switch is impending. Van Drew was even quoted as saying he hadn’t given such a move any thought whatsoever, and Kurkowski is out there actively raising money, opening a campaign office, and promoting his candidacy. It sounds as if the obsession is coming from LoBiondo rather than anyone else.

he should run

he should run. This is great shot for Van Drew, and the climate could be the best for several years.

Kurkowski, while well

Kurkowski, while well meaning, doesn't even stand a remote chance in this race. Getting Van Drew to run would enable the dems to boot out LoBiondo.
