Wildes might challenge Rothman in Democratic primary

Congressman Steve Rothman beat up on Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joseph Ferriero today, effectively stopping the powerful party leader from endorsing Rob Andrews for U.S. Senate today. But if Ferriero suddenly develops some testicular fortitude and backs Andrews before the April 7 filing deadline, there could be some payback for Rothman too.

There is some talk that Englewood Mayor Michael Wildes will challenge Rothman in the Democratic primary, running with Andrews on the BCDO line. Wildes, a very strong fundraiser, as more than $576,303 cash on hand. In the past, Wildes has promised to self-finance a race for Congress and spend whatever it takes to win. Wildes is seriously considering a House bid, and a spokesman says he will make a decision in the next 24 to 48 hours.

No way

Wildes is nothing but talk. If this is not another april fools day post by Wally. I would so enjoy watching Wikdes run. Maybe a stake will finally be driven into his heart as Rothman destroys him

even off the line, Rothman would win

Wildes is formidable, and Rothman would have to take that challenge pretty seriously.

But at the end of the day, I still believe Rothman would win.  He's pretty popular in his district I think.

Wildes Will Not Run

He's not that stupid.

Though, I must confess I would enjoy seeing his balls get the better of his brains. It would certainly "make my day". :-)

At this point, I don't even think Boss Joe would back him with the machine line.

I would love to be wrong and see Boss Joe and Wildes actually "sticking to their guns" and backing Andrews as they both tried to pull off this coup. In that scenario the Democrats of NJ and of Bergen County would have some really serious choices to make.....and the lights would actually be turned on (for a change).

When the lights are on; the Boses lose. Most people really are decent and good, when they see what's going on.

Again, it's far more likely that Boss Joe and Wildman Wilde will lower their eyes, bow thier heads in shame and slink away with their tails between their legs.

Sadly, most NJ Democrats will never have understood the dirty dynamic that was at play here.
