State Senator Paul A. Sarlo

SARLO GETS BILL APPROVED TO EASE NORTH JERSEY AIR TRAFFIC

TRENTON - The Senate Transportation Committee today approved a bill sponsored by Senator Paul A. Sarlo that regional transportation experts say will greatly ease air traffic congestion at Newark Liberty International Airport and Teterboro Airport.

Senator Sarlo's bill, S-25, which would authorize the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to purchase Stewart Airport in New York State, was approved unanimously and forwarded to the full Senate.

"This bill will help residents and businesses near Newark and Teterboro Airports who have dealt for far too long with the noise and the air traffic congestion," said Senator Sarlo, D-Bergen, Essex and Passaic. "When the Port Authority gets through fixing up Stewart, it will draw air traffic and cargo flights from the northern areas which now have no viable alternatives to the metropolitan airports in and around New York City."

State Senator Joseph M. Kyrillos, Jr.

BUSINESS LEADERS CONTINUE TO SCORN NEW JERSEY’S BUSINESS CLIMATE
CFO State Tax Survey Ranks New Jersey Second Worst in Nation

Senator Joe Kyrillos, (R-13), issued the following statement in response to a recent CFO State Tax Survey that ranked New Jersey second behind California as the state with the worst tax climate. The survey was sponsored by Boston-based CFO Publishing and asked corporate tax officials for their impressions of states’ handling of tax-related issues.

"Once again New Jersey is ranked at the bottom of the pack by business leaders who rightfully believe our environment is bad for business. Too many large corporations are looking to expand outside of the state, and small businesses are opening elsewhere.

McNerney outspends Caliguire 10-1

The race for Bergen County Executive -- viewed as potentially competitive earlier this year -- now looks like an easy win for incumbent Democrat Dennis McNerney. Sources say that a Democratic poll shows McNerney leading Republican Todd Caliguire by a margin in the high teens. McNerney is also outspending his GOP rival by a 10-1 margin: The Record reports that McNerney has spent $1 million (including New York network TV), while Caliguire, a wealthy businessman and former Freeholder who sought the GOP nomination for Governor in 2005, has brought in less than $100,000.

Sheriff Candidate Mastrangelo:
ESSEX COUNTY NEEDS
INTERNET CRIME UNIT

Codey Legislation to Protect Children Online
Highlights Need for Law Enforcement Focus

(Cedar Grove, NJ) -- Detective Rich Mastrangelo, candidate for Essex County Sheriff, applauded Senate President and former Governor Richard Codey today for introducing a strong package of bills aimed at increasing penalties for online child predators. Yet Mastrangelo also pointed out that legislation is only a dead letter if there is not an active effort made towards enforcement. Faced with a lack of focus on online predators by Essex County law enforcement, Mastrangelo vowed today to form an Internet Child Safety Unit if elected to the Sheriff's Office.

"Child predators are not just in our towns. With the Internet, they are in our living rooms. To keep our children safe, law enforcement has to keep up with the times. That is why Essex County needs an Internet Crimes Unit. Other counties have already shown how successful such units can be. Just last month the Westchester DA nabbed a predator who lived right here in Cedar Grove," said Mastrangelo, a decorated police officer with 23 years experience.
