SPEAKER ROBERTS ENDORSES PLAN FOR ECONOMIC EMERGENCY SUMMIT AS ASSEMBLY PANEL READIES MONDAY HEARING

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts Jr. today endorsed Senate Majority Leader Stephen M. Sweeney’s plan to convene an emergency economic summit to weigh what can be done to help New Jersey workers and businesses.

Roberts made his announcement as the Assembly Labor Committee readied plans for a Monday hearing about the impact of the recent financial crisis on the state economy and its citizens. Roberts said testimony heard during Monday’s hearing will help shape plans for the emergency summit.

(ELIZABETH) – Assemblywoman-select Annette Quijano today was named to the Assembly Labor Committee and the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee for the 2008-09 legislative session.

Calling him "a champion of workers' rights," the Communications Workers of America, Local 1034, today endorsed U.S. Rep. Robert E. Andrews for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination.

(TRENTON) - The Assembly Labor Committee today released legislation Assembly members Nelson Albano, Sheila Oliver, Linda Greenstein, and Wayne DeAngelo sponsored to provide workers across the state access to up to six weeks paid leave from their jobs to take care of pressing family needs.

(TRENTON) - The Assembly today gave its final approval on legislation Assemblymen Jeff Van Drew, Gordon M. Johnson, and Joseph Egan sponsored to combat "take-the-money-and-run" plant closings by major corporate employers in New Jersey.

PENNSVILLE – State Senator Stephen M. Sweeney and State Assemblymen John J. Burzichelli and Douglas H. Fisher announced today they have received the endorsement of a dozen labor unions led by the 85,000 member strong Southern New Jersey AFL-CIO Central Labor Council.
