Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean (R-21) is calling on Governor Jon Corzine to convene a special summer session of the Legislature to address much-needed transportation funding:

Kean Declares Massive Borrowing & Toll Scheme DOA In Republican Caucus

Senate Republican Leader Thomas Kean (R-21) issued the following statement regarding opposition to Governor Corzine proposal to issue nearly $40 billion in new debt through his plan to monetize New Jersey’s toll roads. The plan would raise tolls by more than 800 percent over the next 14 years.

            Republican Leaders Senator Tom Kean and Assemblyman Alex DeCroce called on the Corzine Administration to support efforts to pass constitutional amendments through the Legislature that would restrain spending and control borrowing immediately. The Republican leaders are also asking Governor Corzine to introduce a balanced budget that does not include revenue from his toll hike plan.

 Spending Must Be Cut To Solve New Jersey’s Fiscal Crisis

Senator Thomas Kean, (R-21), today announced that members of the Senate Republican caucus will refrain from voting "yes" on any bill spending state money, at least until Governor Corzine’s budget address scheduled for February 26. The caucus will define new spending bills as those with either an appropriation, necessary to effectuate the legislation, or a fiscal note identifying a known impact on the state budget.

Senators Thomas Kean, (R-21), and Leonard Lance, (R-23), issued the following statement today blasting the Corzine administration for agreeing to borrow an additional $2.5 billion. The additional debt will be used to fund unfinished building projects in the 31 Abbott special needs districts.

Senator Thomas Kean, (R-21), the Senate Republican Leader, issued a letter today calling on Attorney General Anne Milgram to open an investigation into an apparent violation of Steve Lonegan’s first amendment rights. A copy of the letter is attached.

"The Mayor of Middle Township was very clear in his statement that ‘the Governor’s people’ directed the Middle Township Police Department to arrest Steve Lonegan. This statement alone would appear to compel the Attorney General to initiate an investigation immediately to answer all of the questions surrounding this unfortunate incident."

Arresting Protestors Violates The Spirit & The Letter Of The First Amendment

Senator Thomas Kean, (R-21), the Senate Republican leader, issued the following statement regarding published reports that government officials colluded with local police to stamp out protests against Governor Corzine’s road tax plan. Former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan was arrested by Middle Township Police on the grounds of the Middle Township High School where the Governor was holding a town hall meeting Saturday. Senator Kean is calling on Attorney General Anne Milgram to open an investigation into this apparent violation of Steve Lonegan’s first amendment rights.

Assemblywoman Jennifer Beck, Assemblyman Sean Kean and Senator Joe Kyrillos today announced that they are forming an informal “working group” to advise them how to improve the State’s Farmland Assessment Act in an effort to strengthen the program and make it less prone to abuse.
