12TH District legislators Senator Jennifer Beck, Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon and Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande today urged the legislature to pass A-1444 and S-686, which would change current law by forcing any public official convicted of corruption to forfeit all their public pensions and applying to all public officials, regardless of when their crimes took place.

(TRENTON) - Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts, Jr. today issued the following statement after the conviction of former Senator Wayne Bryant:

"Today's verdict underscores the need to build upon the reforms we've already implemented in the budget process and go even further on strengthening our ethics laws.  I look forward to working with the governor and the Senate to accomplish that goal."

After years of promising reform, Governor Corzine has finally introduced an ethics package worthy of bipartisan support. But it doesn't do nearly enough to address the corressive effects of money on state politics. Republican Leader Tom Kean has introduced a bill that limits the money the politically powerful can spend to influence Trenton.

Governor Corzine is talking about the right moves when it comes to ethics reform. Republicans who have been advocating these reforms for the past three years welcome his decision to join the fight, and hope he can sway the members of his party who have blocked reform.
