ASSEMBLY DEMS APPLAUD INCREASE TO HOME HEATING ASSISTANCE FUNDING

(TRENTON) – Assembly members Wayne P. DeAngelo, Fred Scalera, Joan M. Quigley, Annette Quijano, and Nellie Pou today commended the swift response of Governor Jon S. Corzine and the state Department of Community Affairs in enacting the recommendations of legislation (AR-165) they sponsored to allow more working families to receive help paying their heating bills this winter.

(TRENTON) – Assembly members Joseph Cryan and Annette Quijano said New Jersey's World War II Memorial has ensured the stories of the men and women who sacrificed at home and abroad in the fight against tyranny and fascism will never be forgotten.

One election next week that has received virtually no attention: a special election for Neil Cohen's seat in the State Assembly.  Democrat Annette Quijano, who won a special election convention last summer after Cohen's resignation, faces Republican Linda Gaglione, a former Union Township school board member.  Expect Quijano, who has outraised Gaglione $52,175 to 0, to win this solidly Democratic district by  a wide margin.

BILL SEEKING TO HELP RESIDENTS PAY HOME HEATING BILLS APPROVED

(TRENTON) –Legislation to push the federal government to allow more low-income households to receive help paying home heating costs has been approved 78-1 by the Assembly.

The measure (AR165) urges the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to take all administrative steps necessary to increase the annual income eligibility level for receiving assistance under the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Assemblywoman-select Quijano Will Be Sworn-in As Newest Representative for Union County

(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman-select Annette Quijano will be sworn-in Thursday as the first woman and minority representing the 20th Legislative District in the General Assembly.

Union County Republicans have chosen Union Township Board of Education President Linda Gaglione to challenge Assemblywoman Annette Quijano in the 20th Legislative Direct.

Gaglione unsuccessfully challenged State Sen. Ray Lesniak last year, getting 4,478 votes to Lesniak’s 9,760.  She was unanimously chosen to challenge Quijano at a county committee meeting on Tuesday night in Kenilworth. 

Quijano was recently sworn into office after being narrowly chosen by the Union County Democratic Committee last month to replace Assemblyman Neil Cohen, who resigned after child pornography was allegedly found on his legislative office computer.
