Baer Legacy
while the rush is on from the left to bestow and canonize Baer as some political saint and saviour. One must point out that yes his legacy can be seen all over Bergen County on Rt 48, Broad Ave, and from Fairview to Ft Lee and that is the scourge of illegals treating our community like an open latrine.
Unfortunately his shoes have
Unfortunately his shoes have been filled, but New Jersey would be better off if they hadn't.

Very Sad
I was very sad to hear of Baer's passing, he was a good man. I was a fan of his and an admirer, but I was wondering if politicsnj is planning on becoming the Byron Baer memorial Web site?
a Fan of Nothing
NJ Blue and other trolls drinking the sympathy cool aid and jumping on the wagon after Baers passing is too much for even the moderate to stomach. Baer was the establishment and is therefore part of NJs problems. Other legacys have been pointed out by previous postings, We should remind the voters that his legacy in Englewood is one of corruption/ deep seated racism and an open destain for anything traditional in America
Humbleservant...
How do claim Senator Baer left a legacy of racism when he was jailed in the 60s for being a Freedom Rider? He fought for migrant workers that nobody else fought for. What have you done??? It's easy to sit there and write how you think he has wronged the State, but it's more difficult to actually do something about it.
Baer has been forgotten in today's policits
I'm glad that all this attention is being unleashed in lieu of Senator Baer's passing. Today's politicians could learn a lot from his example. To be honest, I didn't know much about him before this week, but all the news stories have opened my eyes to how great he truly was.
And maybe if today's politicians weren't so money hungry and corrupt, then Baer might not have gotten all this attention. I only hope all of this acts to inspire them to be better public servants.
wow
some of you people are as ill-informed as you are stupid
Fed up with Englewood
Freedom Rider in the 60s a lot were on that band wagon. We are talking about Englewood Schools in 2007. Englewood the liberal bastion divided by more than railroad tracks. Suggest you go there sometime and see the Economic and class divide among the super Democrat elite
"Baer’s son David, 52, a
"Baer’s son David, 52, a lawyer who now lives in California, recalled his father’s struggles to integrate the then de facto segregated Englewood school system. Baer took his son out of school in protest, placing him in a network of literally underground alternative classrooms, where integrated classes were taught in various families’ basements."
Again, it's easy to criticize, but if you think it's so bad, what are you doing about it??
Humbleservant, You Need to Educate Yourself
Before blaming an individual legislator with a verifiable record of personal sacrifice, familiarize yourself with the line of U.S. Supreme Court case authored over the last 25 years that have restricted the ability of school boards to use race to integrate public schools. There's no other way to prevent the de facto segregation that results from housing patterns. Blaming a single courageous activist for the Court's and the system's failures just highlights your ignorance.
