Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman John Adler met this morning at the Robert Treat hotel in Newark to map out a fundraising plan for Barack Obama's campaign for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. Democratic fundraiser Orin Kramer and attorneys Elnardo Webster and Victor Herlinsky were also present.

Victor Herlinsky got Lucky
Glad to see Victor Herlinsky has finally backed a winner with Booker, not so sure Herlinskyr can pick another winner after his long line of political losers.
Late Start
they're a little late out of the gate. Edwards had a decent sized fundraiser, and Hillary has the heavy hitters. Not a good sign for the Obama organization in NJ.
Obama is a Spoiler
At this rate, Obama is going to end up being a spoiler. It's probably going to come down to John Edwards and Hillary Clinton with Barack Obama taking votes away from Hillary. Obama will do well in Camden, Essex, and parts of Hudson County, making it very close between the two frontrunners.
In the end, he will probably be end up being first in line as a VP candidate.
Obama is not a spoiler
Why is it that Obama has to be the spoiler? why can't Hillary or Edwards be the spoiler for Barack? It is refreshing to see a candidate who ispires voters than those who think they can say what they want because he/she thinks they are heir apparant.
OBAMA IS THE FUTURE, HE WILL WIN IT ALL
Here are some raw truths- New Jerseyans are tired of partisan politics and the legacy of Bushites & Clintonistas tearing this country down the middle.Â
It's time for a real change, sorry Mr. Edwards, and Barack Obama is the only candidate suitable to bring about that shift and return some trust to the system.
- Thank you.Â
Obama Can and Will Win
As a Newark city councilman, I am proud to be the first one of my colleagues to endorse Barack Obama for President. Not only is he not a spoiler, but conditions created by the Bush regime has actually opened the process up to the point where the American public will support anyone, white, black, latino, woman, that has the vision, message, and common sense to lead. That is why Barack Obama gets the crowds he does because beyond his rock star status and ability to communicate effectively, he stances and worldview resonate with red and blue staters. Edwards, on the other hand, leaves many of us cold based on the 2004 general election and his being creamed by Cheney in the VP debate. Ronald C. Rice
He IS a Spoiler
With all due respect to the Councilman and those who share his opinion, the reason Barack Obama is a spoiler is because he has only been a US Senator for two years and when push comes to shove, the majority of Democrats are not going to view him as an experienced enough candidate. Whether he actually is or not is a non factor. It's a matter of perception and both Clinton and Edwards are going to pound away at it and have a lot of money to do so.
That's the way you Democrats operate because as far as liberals are concerned, the ends always justify the means. In the end, you will all gladly support any Democrat who wins because you simply hate Republicans and "The Bush Regime" that "oppresses minorities."
Quite frankly Councilman, your glowing endorsement Barack Obama is not going to get you into Cory Booker's good graces and it doesn't take away from the fact that you were a tool for one of the most arrogant, corrupt, self serving politicians in state history in Sharpe James.
So before you go attempting to discredit the "Bush Regime" for your own personal and political benefit, perhaps you should remove the plank from your own eye before attempting to remove the speck from that of your brother's.
Oh Dino...
"As far as liberals are concerned, the ends always justify the means." Dino, please. Democrats didn't create illegal secret prisons all over Europe, Democrats didn't call the Geneva Coventions "quaint," Democrats didn't write memo after memo after memo arguing that it's ok to toture prisoners and hold them indefinitely. Could there be a worse, more unjust, more un-American example of ends justifying means?
Or maybe you were referring only to electoral politics and not international affairs? I'm sure Karl Rove has never, ever done anything unethical in an election in furtherance of his grand vision of a conservative America. Never insinuated Sen. John McCain's wife was a drug addict, never bugged his own office and blamed it on his opposition to keep attention off a debate that his candidate was all but certain to lose. And let's not forget that he has never, ever, not even once thought about removing a US Attorney because he or she did not prosecute elected Democratic officials on bogus charges.
I could go probably go on. And quite honestly, you could probably point out plenty of examples of Democrats allowing the "ends to justify the means" as well (even though you failed to do so in your post.) The point is Senator Barack Obama represents a change, a move away from a strain of politics that focuses solely on the ends, a politics that is ethically lax when it comes to the means. His willingness to listen and compromise is a trait that is sorely lacking in many officials on both sides of the aisle. I should say also, this trait is not a sign of weakness. He does not hesitate to take principled stands - take for instance his early opposition to our War of choice in Iraq. But on controversial issues where the arguments from all sides have merits, his careful, thoughtful approach sets him apart from politicians of an earlier generation.
He is by no means above the fray. He readily admits this -"I am an imperfect vessel," is familiar refrain of his. But at the very least, he is willing to struggle to raise the level of debate, to compromise where possible and to bring Hope back to America. That is more than can be said of most. And that is why people will vote for him.
who r u talking about, dino
Idiot boy Dino, I ran on the Booker Team slate for city council, both in 2002 and 2006.
And with ll due respect to you, I have opposed Sharpe James and his policies before Cory Booker ever came to Newark.
Now that I have answered your personal smear and complete mischaracterization of me (as you obviously have no clue who I am), can you dignify your participation here with comments based on the Presidential candidates running and refrain from making comments about local Newark politics of which you seem to be completely clueless about.
Ronald C. Rice
Dino Dino DIno
The fine Councilman is correct. He has never supported Sharpe and has been on the Booker Team from the start. Your insinuation that he is endorsing Obama to kiss up to Booker is an insult. I think he deserves an apology.
Mistaken Identity
My apologies to the Councilman for my confusing his political track record with that of his father's. Hopefully, the Councilman will apologize for his total lack of class by resorting to childish name calling. As a public official, he should know better.
As far as Nick is concerned, I wish we WOULD "torture" terrorists as your left wing spin machine likes to label it which couldn't be farther from the truth. Interrogation isn't torture. For what it's worth, I wish we would remove them all from Gitmo and throw them all into Fidel Castro's gulags. Being that you're a lefty lib, I'm sure you're a fan of Fidel and have a Che t-shirt or two hanging in your closet.
As far as being clueless about Newark politics, I'm guilty as charged. I would never even park my car in Newark, nevermind live there in a million years so as far as I'm concerned, ignorance is bliss. You know, I was really trying to show a softer side of Dino of late but you guys just won't let me. Just when I think I'm out they pull me back in!
Thank You
Thank you Dodoe...I mean Dino for keeping your car and youself from Newark I am more than happy to say we will do just find without your presence.
Sad and Pathetic
You call me a "tool" and insinuate that I am a corrupt pol and I respond in kind (I give as good as I get) and I have no class. Typical right wing response.Â
And Muhammad66 is right, if you are not going to be a part of making the state's largest and most important city a better place and, ergo, the state a better place, we do not need you in our city.
Your politics is exactly why millions embrace and will embrace Obama because we are tired of your rip and burn politics and castigation tactics. If the old saying is you are part of the problem or part of the solution, then I am glad you have decided to stay on the problem side. We need real men and women with courage as allies as we seek to bring light, improvement, and reform to all areas that need it.
Ronald C. Rice
Really Dino? Torture?
Dino,
Your endorsement and advocacy of torture makes me realize you and I cannot meaningfully engage on this issue. I had written a lenghty post citing evidence from Abu Ghraib as well as the UN Convention on Torture's definition of torture but after re-reading your post I came to the conclusion that my efforts would be wasted on you.
I would like to state for the record, though,  that I own zero Che t-shirts and am no fan of any country or government that places restrictions on its citizens' right to freedom of expression and speech. Please, for your own sake, stop the assumptions. They make you sound dumb. Very, very dumb.
Also I'm curious, why wouldn't you park you car in Newark? And why wouldn't you live there in a million years? Where do you live now? Where do you park your car?
Your halfhearted and insincere apology to the Councilman could use some work too. Why don't you give that another shot.
Alright Nick
Fine, I'll play this game. Since you're obviously not one who plays Devil's Advocate very often, I'll attempt to educate you. No, I do not advocate torture. That being said, I also do not believe that we will get the answers we need from detained terrorists who would kill us in a heartbeat and not think twice about it by coddling them.
I also find your citing of Abu Ghraib and any irrelevant UN definition of torture flimsy at best. We do not answer to the UN and they have no say over how we govern ourselves. Furthermore, using a few bad apples in Abu Ghraib to discredit our mission in Iraq and accuse the Bush Administration of sitting back and allowing torture to occur is beyond shallow and if you're going to attempt to defend that position to me, you are going to be unsuccessful.
As for you Councilman, in your attempts to label me an "idiot" and discredit my ideology, you have further cemented my point about your party. The same vitriol you're spewing in my direction is the same vitriol that your own party is going to spew in Sen. Obama's direction. John Edwards has been running for President since the day after the '04 election and went out of his way yesterday to exploit his sick wife who is dying from cancer to win a sympathy vote. Hillary Clinton has a very powerful PR machine behind her and they will do all they can to crush, kill and destroy any oppostion that stands in their way. Both of these candidates will do everything they can do tear Obama down. Hillary's machine is so determined to cut him down that she's got Al Sharpton out there doing her dirty work. Just how much money is he getting paid to sell Sen. Obama up the river?
In closing Councilman, I don't care who you are or who you think you are in your own eyes, but anybody who knows me, whether they agree with my politics or not, knows that I don't back down from anybody. I give just as good as I get as well. I look forward to debating you in the future.
Dino's right about one thing.....
Hillary is evil and will tear Obama's heart out if she views him as a threat to her being nominated. I bet she has tons and tons of people investigating Obama as we speak. Councilman Rice, buckle in, it's going to be a bumpy ride..... Otherwise, great job by you and Mayor Booker with ridding Newark of the previous administration.....
