Myers Slams Adler, DCCC for
Doctoring His Photo in Recent Attack Mailer
Second mailer outright lies about Myers position on Iraq reconstruction aid
Mount Holly, August 26, 2008-Career Trenton politician John Adler and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) doctored a photo of Chris Myers and used it in a recent attack mailer (attached Mailer #1) to make it appear Myers posed for a photo walking side-by-side with President George W. Bush despite the fact that he has never personally met the President, let alone posed for a picture with him, and outright lied about Myers' position on Iraq reconstruction aid in a second mailer (attached Mailer #2), charged decorated combat veteran and successful businessman Chris Myers (NJ-3) today.
Myers called use of the doctored photo and knowingly lying about his positions a continuation of Adler's Trenton-style dirty tricks campaign that has included the NJ Democratic State Committee sending mail to Republican voters attacking Myers during the primary; anonymous negative mailings being sent to Myers' campaign contributors from a South Jersey postmark; and radical liberal bloggers linked to Adler's campaign lying about Myers' military service record during the Gulf War.
"John Adler and his cronies in Trenton and Washington have stooped to a shameful new low today by doctoring my photo, and lying about my position on the issue of Iraq reconstruction aid, in an attempt to mislead voters and divert attention away from Mr. Adler's deplorable tax and spend record as a 16-year career Trenton politician," said Myers. "John Adler has made this state unaffordable for working families and seniors on a fixed income, and amassed a record in Trenton he simply cannot defend; so instead he resorts to garbage like this. Unfortunately for him, the people of the 3rd Congressional District won't be fooled so easily."
Myers added: "If they're stooping to this level in August, who knows what they'll be doing and saying come October. The level of desperation is truly astonishing."
Myers challenged Adler to refuse any more assistance from the DCCC until they publicly admit they were wrong for using the doctored photo and apologize for knowingly lying about Myers' position on Iraq reconstruction aid. Myers said Adler's typical "throw-his-hands-up-in-the-air" attitude about these attacks wasn't good enough anymore, and that it's incumbent on Adler to draw a line in the sand with his surrogates on what is acceptable behavior in this campaign.
"My eight-year old daughter would know better than to doctor someone's photo and try to pass it off as the real thing," said Myers. "Based on his past actions I don't have much faith in him, but perhaps the over-the-top deception in this mailer will compel Mr. Adler to show some backbone and take a stand for what is right, for once."
Adler - DCCC Mailer Copy from 8/25:
"Even with our struggling economy, House candidate Chris Myers stands with Bush in sending $120 billion of taxpayers' money to Iraq each year the war continues..."
Myers Press Release from 8/6 (attached):
"While there is still work to be done, news of the Iraqi government's projected $79 billion surplus by the end of the year means that it's time to end non-military aid to Iraq courtesy of American taxpayers immediately. American taxpayers have done more than their fair share, and it's time for the Iraqis to take full responsibility for these reconstruction projects in their own country."
