Wisniewski Hails Purchase of New Rail Cars to Help Ease Ridership Demands

WISNIEWSKI HAILS PURCHASE OF NEW RAIL CARS TO HELP EASE RIDERSHIP DEMANDS
(SAYREVILLE) - Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski, chairman of the Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee, issued the following statement today on NJ Transit's Wednesday approval of the purchase of 50 additional multilevel rail cars.
The purchase will bring the agency's total number of multilevel cars to 329. The cars have 15 percent to 20 percent more capacity than single-level cars.
"This is a key step that comes amid increasing demands on our mass transit system. These cars bring new capacity and ease for commuters by adding more seats and will help relieve congestion on our roads. They will also bring immediate and critical relief as the plans to build a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River progress.
"With current track capacity limited, these new cars are a smart use of our limited but valuable transportation dollars."
