GREENSTEIN AND DEANGELO STATEMENTS ON
CLEAN ELECTIONS REPORT
(TRENTON) - Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein and Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo issued the following statements today in response to the 2007 Fair and Clean Elections Report issued by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission:
"Today's report demonstrates that the program is on stable footing, but improvements are still needed, said Assemblywoman Greenstein (D-Middlesex).
"I look forward to working with my colleagues on the bi-partisan working group to fix the shortcomings of the pilot program. Full public financing is within reach, but the legislature should specifically look at ways to curb the outside influence of groups that look to impede the process by influencing voters with negative tactics and unsubstantiated claims.
"As a first time legislative candidate, the program allowed me time to communicate directly with voters but progress is still needed, said DeAngelo (D-Mercer).
"This report underscores the importance of removing the toxic influence of special interest money from the political process. I urge my colleagues in the Senate and Assembly to work in a bi-partisan fashion to make this pilot program permanent."
