The gift that keeps on giving: Paul Aronsohn runs for Councilman
By Wally EdgeFormer Rotarian American congressional candidate Paul Stuart Aronsohn has entered the race for a seat on the Ridgewood Village Council. He will run for one of three open seats in a May 13 non-partisan election. The former spokesman for Governor James E. McGreevey ran for Congress in 2006, but lost to Republican incumbent Scott Garrett by a wide margin.
Here’s the money quote, from The Ridgewood News: “When asked what he felt were the key issues in Ridgewood, Aronsohn didn’t wish to be tied down to any particular topics. Aronsohn said all the issues were important and he didn’t want to put any eight on them, but rather wished to ‘focus on maintaining the quality of life for residents in Ridgewood.’”
Since leaving the McGreevey administration, Aronsohn, who moved to Ridgewood in 2005, has also sought support for State Assembly, Bergen County Freeholder, and Fort Lee Council, but without success.

Giggle giggle giggle - grow up woth the constant "Rotarian American" crap. it was funny for a day. Now it is old and shows that you have some sort of obsession with him. Is he any different from any other politican trying to get into elected politics.

Keep it up Wally....we need the comic relief. I would also point out that this question is much more important than any of the public questions that usually make it on the ballot. Call Joe Roberts and Dick Codey, see if we can get it on there for November.

Politickernj.com should look for stories that matter. The fact that Aronsohn is running for city council has little interest in any event. To even have a poll on this Rotarian remark is apalling! Very disappointing.
It wasn't funny then, it isn't funny now
There are a lot of things this site should do differently, perhaps starting with reverting to their old, better name. Observing proper sentence structure would be a good thing too. Oh, and don't forget to use articles in your writing, somehow it seems to make sentences easier to read. Perhaps a poof reader would be a good investment. (Your grammar and unprofessionalism offends even this deceased Hudson County politician.)
But lay off the Rotary already. They are a good group that has raised billions of money for charity in the US and internationally, were the prime force behind eradicating Polio, and had a lot to do with the establishment of the UN. And as far as I know, no Rotarian ever tried to set up a brother in law by taping them with a hooker in the Red Bull motel. So, if you want to pick on someone, find another vehicle.

Statement of Paul Aronsohn, May 27, 2006
“On Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who gave their lives – who paid the ultimate price -- in the service of our country. On every other day, we celebrate the freedom preserved and protected by their service.
With our nation at war and with so many Americans presently in harm’s way, this Memorial Day commemoration is especially significant. Regardless of one’s view of the war, we must all recognize and pay tribute to the thousands of men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf. They and their families deserve our respect, our gratitude, and our prayers.
As a Rotarian, I firmly believe that there is no higher calling than “service above self”. And as an American, I firmly believe that no one embodies this philosophy more than our nation’s courageous service men and women.”
Honestly, I did not remember
Honestly, I did not remember the press release. He never refers to himself as a "Rotarian American." I saw nothing that "hilarious" about the press release. it was your standard campaign puff piece press release.
In all honesty, I was expecting a funnier gaffe-filled press release and that did not happen.
All politics is local.
The Rotarian understands through experience that running for a congressional seat with no political base makes little sense, if any at all.
By running for council in a well maintained, well run community like Ridgewood which has nonpartisan government he can win without the anchor of being labeled some political opportunist or liberal Democrat.
More importantly, he builds a political base in a more Democratic Bergen County with legislative redistricting just around the corner for congress as well as the state legislature. Paul could find himself in the 9th or possibly in the 12th next time around. Better yet, he could find himself in a more democratically friendly legislative district or even look to run for county executive after voters get tired of good old Dennis from Ho-Ho-Kus.
This is the smartest political move the Rotarian has made since leaving the McGreevey Administration unless he loses, which means the end of this brief odyssey in electoral affairs.
My bet is he'll not only win, but possibly wind-up as mayor of Ridgewood.
