Hughes endorses Clinton

Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes has endorsed Hillary Rodham Clinton for President.

"In a diverse field of Democratic candidates, Senator Clinton stands out as the one candidate with the star appeal to reach into America's homes and lead American into the future," said Hughes.

Hughes, the son of former Gov. Richard J.  Hughes, served as a Mercer County Freeholder before winning election as County Executive in 2003 -- the first Democrat to win the post in 24 years.

Hillary Clinton Panics: Brings in Bill to Battle Barack Obama

Hillary Clinton Panics: Brings in Bill to Battle Barack Obama -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Jeff Freeland Mar 31, 2007 Will Hillary Clinton and her husband Bill campaign as they did nearly sixteen years ago with the now infamous 'two for the price of one' mantra? It certainly will be that way when it comes to fundraising. A New York Times report claims that she has dispatched former President Bill Clinton to attend 16 fund-raisers in the last six weeks and to lead conference calls and Internet appeals to donors, in some cases assessing Mr. Obama’s positions on Iraq. Hillary Clinton Panics: Brings in Bill to Battle Barack Obama Is this Hillary Clinton is panic mode? Will she be able to lead if elected president or will Bill Clinton run the White House behind the scenes? *** The Times report adds that Democrats close to the couple say that Mr. Clinton’s efforts on his wife’s behalf were just beginning and that they were likely to accelerate after he finishes writing a book this spring. Several donors said that Mr. Clinton’s role was even greater than they originally expected after Mrs. Clinton announced her candidacy on Jan. 20. The paper cites a source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he said the Clintons would not like his speaking openly, said the Clinton campaign had been trying to lower fund-raising expectations because of a concern about a surge by Barack Obama. “The Clintons thought the nomination would most likely be theirs, barring some major disaster, and they are having to work harder and earlier for the nomination than either Clinton expected, said the source, who said he had talked about Mr. Obama with Mr. Clinton. “This was not how things were supposed to go, and they are obsessed with beating Barack in fund-raising. *** Hillary Clinton has already shown that she's not quite ready to accept challenges on her own and the fact that she is already relying on her husband to twist arms for cash and the fact that she has already had to bring him in to battle Barack Obama reeks of desperation.
