Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joseph Ferriero will push State Senator Joseph Coniglio to drop his bid for re-election, according to sources close to the Bergen Democratic leader. But Ferriero, who paid for a poll earlier this month to test voter reaction to Coniglio as the target of a federal criminal investigation, has not yet told Coniglio that the party will ask him to end his campaign for a third term.
Based on the poll results, Democrats are concerned that Coniglio -- whether he is indicted before November or not -- could lose his 38th district Senate seat to Republican Robert Colletti, a former Elmwood Park Councilman.
Insiders say that Paramus Mayor James Tedesco is the leading contender to replace Coniglio on the ballot, and not Assemblyman Robert Gordon or Assemblywoman Joan Voss.

Goes to the Senator - this district is crazy anyway (should change it to the Rt. 80 special. If the R's were half awake they'd realize this for redistricting.
You gotta love Dems.....
Joseph Ferriero is not asking him to drop out because he is a corrupt politician, but rather because he is a corrupt politician that may lose the next election (based on his poll). Wow, true leadership.....keep cleaning up the state Joe!
Too Late without the Supreme Court
I haven't seen any confirmation of an indictment but I guess the polls are enough to jettision your friend. Will Ferriero pick up all the legal bills of Coniglio if he agrees to walk the plank? If Conliglio was smart he hold out for a buy out.
Law states that a petition must be filed 100 days prior to the election is the final date to qualify to be on the ballot. That deadline came and went about a month ago. Of course the Supreme Court stepped in and allowed Lautenburg to be substituted for "The Torch" (Torricelli's Mafia nickname). The reprinting of all the ballots became the responsibility of the person making the change as part of their ruling, which would be the Ferriero's Slush Fund.
If Coniglio agrees to step aside, he probably will site health reasons because he doesn't want to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchai.
