Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joseph Ferriero has endorsed Assemblyman Bob Gordon to fill the state Senate ballot position left vacant by Joe Coniglio.
“Obviously it was a difficult choice because we had outstanding candidates, and any one of them would make an excellent Senator,” said Ferriero. “But based on Bob’s experience, dedication and commitment to the people of New Jersey, I picked him.”
Gordon was under consideration along with Assembly running mate Joan Voss and Paramus Mayor James Tedesco.
The endorsement makes it likely that the county committee will choose Gordon when it convenes tomorrow night to pick a candidate to replace Coniglio, who announced earlier this week that he would not seek re-election to the state Senate.
Ferriero has not yet announced who he wants to fill the Assembly ballot position that will be left vacant by Gordon’s elevation.
If the BCDO confirms Ferriero's choice, Gordon will face off against Republican state Senate candidate Robert Colletti in November's general election.

A little premature Ben
After all, Gordon voted for the same taxes, debt and ridiculous left-wing spending bills and regulations that Coniglio supported. Coniglio's pending indictment was only part of his weakness. Raising the sales tax to 7% and the income tax to 9% plus the $500 small business tax is deadly in a high income district like 38. If only the "Republicans" in Trenton understood that.
game over
Rick, your assessment of Gordon's record would be applicable, but a large portion of those high income residents are high-rise dwellers in Fort Lee, Cliffside Park and Edgewater (aka the Democrat firewall). Despite their affluence, they are social liberals.
If these people vote at all, they vote Democrat because of their fear Republicans are going to arm and impregnate their daughters, no matter how socially liberal the Republican might be. It makes no sense but that's how they think -- and vote.
Well...
At least Ferriero picked someone with a brain who knows about the Legislature. If Gordon wins what will ultimately be dubbed the "Battle of the Bobs," I hope he will show some more independence on fiscal issues.
