Joshua Zeitz, a former aide to Governor Jim Florio and U.S. Senator Robert Torricelli, is expected to run against fourteen-term Republican Congressman Christopher Smith. Zeitz has raised $43,032, while Smith, a traditionally anemic fundraiser, has $204,161 cash on hand. Zeitz actually outraised Smith during the last quarter.
Zeitz is the son of Carl Zeitz, a longtime player in New Jersey politics. Carl Zeitz started as a reporter and later became a state Casino Control Commissioner.
Zeitz donors include: former Democratic State Chairman Tom Byrne, former McGreevey/Torricelli Chief of Staff Jamie Fox, former State Sen. Gordon MacInnes and his wife, Democratic fundraiser Blair MacInnes, Democratic lawyer Angelo Genova, lobbyist Harold Hodes, New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority President George Zoffinger, and Torricelli business partner Sean Jackson. He also received a contribution from Jeffrey Laurenti, a former Senate Democratic Executive Director who ran against Smith in 1986.

Smith doesn't need to raise money
His name on the ballot is enough to win him every election he is in. The only way Chris Smith goes is if he decides not to run again which hopefully won't happen anytime soon.
True
Plus Chairman Gilmore will be more than happy to assist Smith. Chris will be fine.
Fox Go Away
Chris Smith will crush anybody that runs against him.I wish Jamie Fox would go away and crawl in his hole.He already did enough damage during the Torricelli/McGreevey debacles.
not a chance
with Florio and Torch on his resume, this guy has exactly no shot to win a moderate district.
Just not gonna happen.
Chris Smith will absolutely crush any political candidate, not because of any amount of money either he or anyone else raises but because people genuinely respect and really like him. He is aggressive and fights like hell for causes he believes in, but is polite even to his enemies. Amazing and rare!
Chris is a veteran...campaigner and Congressman
Chris values character over checks when it comes to running a campaign. His integrity, hard work, and wisdom as a public servant for the people of the 4th Congressional district as well as people anywhere who are victims of human rights abuses are appreciated by the voters. Of course, in addition to appreciation and their vote, his supporters need to get their checkbooks out...sooner rather than later.
Lockjaw of the brain
Smith is in lockstep with Bush? Are you kidding me? This whiz-kid Zeitz is supposed to be some kind of Democrat zeitgeist author and political pro, and he claims Smith is a knee-jerk Bushie? Smith is probably the most independent guy in the entire Jersey delegation. He votes his conscience and he's honest. He helps anybody who comes through his door, and has helped more constituents than you or I could count. Smith has taken slings and arrows from a lot of Bush folks for his advocacy of our veterans and returning Soldiers. He paid the price with the loss of his chairmanship of the committee. If you don't like some of his stances, fine. But to say he's in lockstep with Bush is just delusional. Holy snikes, Batman, this Zeitz Boy Wonder doesn't appear to know squat.
Serving New Jerseyans is Priority 1
I think what most people don’t realize is this district is really quite winnable,” said Zeitz..... Chris Smith realizes that this district is winnable, Mr. Zeitz...and he keeps winning because MORE than most people (66% More) living in Chris's district DO realize that if they ask for his help, he will be their honest advocate. They also know that when he votes, he votes his honest viewpoint that is based upon much research, discussion with his constituents, an excellent understanding of how to legislate, and prayer. His service to his district is his priority and his commitment to author bills that will become law, not just sound good in press releases,is unparalleled.
