Gov. Jon Corzine will endorse Hillary Rodham Clinton for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination on Monday in Elizabeth. Corzine is expected to be joined by a long list of Clinton supporters, including Reps. Frank Pallone and Rob Andrews.

The Last Gubernatorial Endorsement
How many days after McGreevey endorsed Dean did his campaign crash and burn?
Would vote for Clinton
I'd vote for Clinton over McCain or Giuliani (or any other Republican candidate for that matter), but she is not inspiring grassroots progressive activists; for example, she finished far behind Edwards, Obama, and Kucinich in a recent Blue Jersey poll, and is not doing well in other progressive online communities. I find Corzine's endorsement of Clinton to be a missed chance to support the candidate who should be the eventual nominee, Edwards; but it only reinforces that the Democratic political establishment is lining up behind her, unfortunately.
Spitzer will endorse her too
No question about it.
Too Early
I think Corzine is making a mistake by committing so early.
With NJ's newly early primary, he could have stretched this out and ensured that all the candidates would spend some quality time in NJ.
With this endorsement, I'm not sure Obama and Edwards will do more than breeze in-and-out to attend fundraisers (but I hope I'm wrong about that).
Message to Corzine
New Jersey is Obama Country!!!!!
MUCH TOO SOON...
Poor Jon, he must really want to be Sec. of the Treasury- is NJ that bad? I think MartinOne has a better shot of becoming Ambassador to Belgium under Edwards at the rate he is selling him...
I agree Mr. Democrat, I think it is all too soon to be throwing around frivolous endorsements- the people will ultimately decide this and once they learn more about Barack Obama they will realize Jon’s mistake.
- Thank You
Obama?
Can anyone list 3 positions by Obama on any issues?
Smart Move
Hillary is a winner. Corzine is placing his bet early and it is the smart bet.
The Progressive wing will vote for her , but more importantly she will get the moderate vote, and that is what wins elections.
After 8 years we need a winner. The rest of the Democratic field are lightweights.
Plus you can't beat her money!
Lightweight?
How is Bill Richardson a lightweight?
Jon's Endorsement
Does he know her name is not Katz and she can't negotiate state worker contracts. At least he won't have to spend a million bucks on her. As Gov. he's shown me nothing and he'll do the same for Hillary. Another crash and burn combination.
Three positions
Here's three things Obama has done on one issue that is dear to the hearts of NJ's voters - security (these points are admittedly ripped from his website, but why not go to the horse's mouth?):
1.) Senator Obama introduced legislation in January 2007 to offer a responsible alternative to President Bush's failed escalation policy. The legislation commences redeployment of U.S. forces no later than May 1, 2007 with the goal of removing all combat brigades from Iraq by March 31, 2008 -- a date consistent with the bipartisan Iraq Study Group's expectations. The plan allows for a limited number of U.S. troops to remain in Iraq as basic force protection, to engage in counter-terrorism and to continue the training of Iraqi security forces. If the Iraqis are successful in meeting the 13 benchmarks for progress laid out by the Bush Administration, this plan also allows for the temporary suspension of the redeployment, provided Congress agrees that the benchmarks have been met.
Iraq has become a terrorist breeding ground and it is becoming more and more apparent each day that our presence there makes us less safe.
2.) In 2005, Senator Obama traveled to the former Soviet Union with Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) to investigate the dangers posed by unsecured weapons. The two senators returned from the trip and introduced legislation to establish the next generation of the Nunn-Lugar initiative. Senator Obama helped shepherd this legislation through Congress and it was signed into law in January 2007. The Lugar-Obama initiative cracks down on conventional weapon caches by building on the Nunn-Lugar program, which has secured nearly 7,000 Soviet nuclear warheads, in order to find and destroy conventional arms.
Taking weapons out of the hands of terrorists...'nuff said.
3.) Finally, Senator Obama has worked to decrease our reliance on foreign oil. He's introduced legislation that would raise fuel efficiency standards, legislation that encourages automakers to build and sell more hybrid, fuel efficient cars, and he's introduced legislation with Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) to require 2 billion gallons of alternative diesels, such as biodiesel, to be produced domestically by 2015.
The less we have to rely on foreign oil the safer we are.
HILLARY ON THE ISSUES?
Money, money, money… what is this the “Apprentice? Thank you Nick for defining Obama’s position on such a key issue as security.
If you go to Hillary’s website all you get are “Hillraisers, “Hillcasts, etc. THERE ARE NO ISSUES (oh and a video of a loving husband). Her website, much like her calculating message to the American people, is empty and lacks substance.
At least Edwards, Richardson and Obama post their positions.
Welcome to New York II, I mean New Jersey…
Hillary's Negatives
Hillary Clinton's problem is not her stands on the issues, but her high negatives and inability to change the minds of people that do not like her in America.
She has the highest negatives of any presidential candidate in history this early in the race. That is fatal for the general election. Her negatives nationally equal her favorability numbers according to a poll released last week (48-48)
Lastly, I ask, isn't the country Clinton weary, even those of us that love her husband? And will America really vote a Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton dynasty?
Ronald C. Rice
I agree Ron
Her negatives are to high Corzine should have waited a lil longer to make an endorsement but I am sure he was pressured by the Clintons because of the Obama surge. This endorsement will not silence the Obama supporters in this State from meeting and moving ahead with a planned event to get his message of inspiration and hope in this State to the people. I always say Leaders can make the endorsement but the people are the ones who make the choice.
New Jersey is NOT Obama Country
How is New Jersey Obama Country?
Hillary Clinton is leading in the polls here.
And for the guy that listed reasons to support obama off his website...give me a break man.
So what if the guy has traveled to Russia with Lugar on a fact finding mission about Nuclear Proliferation?
Bill Richardson, who isn't sexy at all, but competent - has negotiated the release of prisoners from the sudan, cuba - and has been an incredible advocate and diplomat for the united states. Barack Obama, while probably a very competent and nice guy, lacks the experience and substance to be president of the united states.
Every single other candidate in the field has more experience than this guy - and his anectdotal excuses to entice support for him will not work when he is more closely scrutinized.
The idea that the guy has some kind of crossover appeal is ridiculous too. Where is this borne out? In the urban state senate district he won? or the Senate race in the bluest of blue states against a wacky carpetbagging former talk show host?
The guy has never run a competitive election in his life (and the primary against bobby rush does not count as competitive).
After eight years of one of the most incompetent administrations in the history of the united states - we need someone who can start from day one, and not have to work on re-cultivating relationships with world leaders. Like I said, I like Obama - but for pragmatic reasons I would currently support any of the other candidates for the presidency on the democratic side (save maybe gravel and kucinich) over Obama in a second.
Being the head of the harvard law review and a constitutional lawyer does not qualify you to be the president of the united states. I wish his sycophants would stop using this as a reason to muster up support for his ill fated campaign.
Biden in 08
There's only one person that deserves to be president in 2008, and that's Joe Biden.
Too Funny!
The funniest part of all of this is that if and when Hillary wins the nomination, Barack Obama would probably end up being the VP candidate and the Obama supporters would be happier than pigs in slop.
Furthermore, if Condi Rice ends up being the GOP VP candidate which I really think is going to happen, it gives black liberals carte blanche to say that Obama is more black than her, or as Harry Belafonte likes to say about black conservatives, she's a house slave because she found favor with her master. Also, I really don't think that Jon Corzine has a lot of say as to who he endorses. He tows the machine establishment line of the party because they are the ones who pulled out their machine votes in Hudson, Essex and Camden Counties in order to get him elected. They also want Hillary to win the nomination over Obama for the same reason they forced Dick Codey out of the '05 Democratic Primary for Governor. Hillary has the most money. That's what it all comes down to in the end.
You can spew the same old liberal diatribes until you're blue in the face (no pun intended) but when all is said and done, It's all about the Benjamins, baby.
give me a break
Barack Obama will not be the vice presidential nominee. Especially if HRC is at the top of the ticket. What would the guy bring to the ticket?
VP's are typically either senators, congressman, or governors who have significant legislative experience. Barack Obama hardly has any of that.
Condi Rice will absolutely not be the VP candidate for Republicans. She has been the most ineffective Secretary of State in modern history - and whoever the republican nominee is, they are not going to want to run on George Bush's failed foreign policy. Condi Rice exemplifies that. It's hilarious how republicans think she is some wacked out conservative republican too - I don't think she cares at all about the social issues you hold so dear to your heart. And she is a sovietologist who completely dropped the ball on islamic terrorism.
IF IT'S ABOUT MONEY?
The establishment is suffering from premature endorsing. This will be Obama country...
