The Bergenfield Republican Club began circulation of the following petition
among Bergen County voters:
To: Hon. Richard J. Cody, Acting Governor, State of New Jersey, State House,
Trenton, New Jersey
Whereas at a recent Bergen County Democratic Committee convention, five
resignation letters were contested as being forgeries, and,
Whereas, the Hon. Rep. Steve Rothman, serving as poll judge for said
election ruled the resignation letters were forgeries, then ruled that the
five replacements appointed by Bergenfield Democratic Committee Chairman
Kevin Clancy were improperly appointed, and therefore the legitimate, duly
elected former officeholders were reinstated and permitted to vote in the
election. And, Whereas Kevin Clancy also serves as a commissioner of the
Bergen County Board of Elections, and,
Whereas The Bergen County Board of Elections oversees all elections in the
county and rules on the validity of all absentee ballots and provisional
ballots cast in Bergen County,
We, the undersigned, being voters in the County of Bergen, now therefore
petition you as the Acting Governor of the State of New Jersey to appoint a
special prosecutor to investigate these improprieties and request that you
suspend Mr. Clancy from his position as Commissioner, until the
investigation has been completed.
The petition has been signed by almost 150 voters of Bergen County,
including local Democrats during the sidewalk sale in Bergenfield on
Saturday September 24th.
During the same event, a Republican candidate for a Freeholder Michael
Kaplan, a Mayor of Norwood, challenged Democratic county officials and
Democratic Freeholders running for reelection to sign this petition. They
declined, as did local Democratic municipal candidates from Bergenfield.
Republican municipal candidates Raymond Gorman and Mary Kirsch fully support
investigation and suspension of Mr. Clancy from the Bergen County Board of
Elections. County officials and local Democratic candidates were also
challenged to sign this petition by the President of the Bergenfield
Republican Club, Mr. Wojciech Siemaszkiewicz and refused to do so.
