Bergen County Republicans will meet on Monday, July 23 to elect a new County Chairman to succeed Guy Talarico, who resigned the day after the June GOP primary.  Attorney Rob Ortiz, Bergenfield GOP Chairman Ben Focarino, and former New Jersey Christian Coalition President Bill Thomson are competing for the post.

Go Ortiz!

Ortiz will bring his fundraising ability and fresh new attitude to help improve Bergen GOP and move them into the modern era.

Bergenfield GOP Chairman

That probably needs to be corrected I think Ben is from Garfield - he is a business owner in Bergenfield.

Ben is not Bergenfield GOP Chairman.

must be a big TYPO! Ben had a business in town in the 90's, but has never been involved in politics in the town.

They'll probably wind up

They'll probably wind up choosing the ex-Christian Coalition president...both Bergen Reps and Monmouth Dems actually try to make themselves as unelectable as possible.

Rearranging the Deck Chairs on the Titanic

A large turnout at BCRO brings in 900 votes. Amongst the County Committee that votes, over 400 are drawing at least one income check in their household from the County. About another 200+ are drawing at least one income check from one of the 70 municipal governments. Chances are that the next BCRO chairman will be elected to do one thing, keep the county committee employed.

That is the crux of the problem. They want to win so they can spend the money and give out the jobs. That is not what we are suppose to stand for. We are supposed to be Republicans.

Talarico tried to make a difference and look what he got. He was happy he didn't leave feet first.

Quorum

How many members need be there to make Quorum?

07/10/07 10:17 am

Quorum

I am not sure of the Quorum requirements. They have been tinkering around with the bylaws for several years and have yet to present them to the County Committee for ratification. I am not sure that they are not making it up as they go. I do know that Bill Thomson was on that by-law committee and is currently running for chairman.

Until they write into the Bylaws a ban on government employees from serving as county committee we will continue to get self-serving candidates rather than Republicans to choose from.

Titanic? No

Comparisons to the Titanic are too tame to describe the BCRO, the Raft of the Medusa is more fitting!

Calling on St Jude

It would be great to see Rob, Ben, Bill and yes Republican Conscience all together at a victory fundraiser ( for who ever wins) breaking bread together for the good of all the local and county candidates this year. That my friends would be leadership.

Not Leadership, Concensus!

Where did you get your definition of leadership?

Whatever

Does it really matter? These guys r so fractured and unorganized, it will take at least 2 election cycles just to raise enough money to get a working phone line and PO Box.
